LANGUAGES of the Earth Today there are many different spoken languages throughout the world.  Yet at one time, about 4200 years ago (some 200 years or so after the Great Flood), the peoples of the whole earth were of only one language...  While a vast majority of the people who inhabited the earth at that time (descendants of Noah) were making a journey together across the land, they chose, in their corporate self-assertion, to dwell in a certain area where there was a great plain.  They wanted to build a city there with a tower that reached into the heavens; so as to make a name for themselves.  But only God gives an everlasting name to those who magnify His name. God's plan for the human race was for them to multiply and to fill the whole earth.  And so, saddened by the peoples choice, God came down and confused their language, scattering them all over the face of the earth. This was an act of grace, in that through this particular isolation the peoples would hopefully realize their true needs in life and turn their hearts again to the One, true God... You can learn the truth of this story in the Biblical book of Genesis, beginning at Chapter eleven and verse one.
