THIS MONTH'S Letter From the Editor: Times of Disaster* *Note: Due to the recent hurricane disaster on the Gulf Coast, our promised letter, The Wonder of Clouds, will be postponed until our very next issue. We want instead to devote this particular Letter From the Editor, as well as this entire issue of the HTTOT Newsletter, to the recent hurricane crisis. We hope it will be both informative and helpful for you... Most of us are familiar with the recent Gulf Coast disaster. Most are not aware however that disasters such as this are part of God's plan for the present earth. The earth as we know it will one day be destroyed. The current heavens will also be destroyed. According to God's truth, new heavens and a new earth will then come into existence. Disasters which have come and continue to come upon the earth are merely warnings of this great, wonderful event. The Gulf Coast disaster is just one of those warnings. I recently received an e-mail from a man who was very depressed. He wrote of disease, of abuse, and of bad health among relatives and his immediate family. His family has endured various sufferings for some timeyears in fact. His personal disasters, in scope, are not unlike the Gulf disaster. He concluded by saying that he did not know why God allows situations which are so very difficult to go through. He pleaded for help with his depression. I could only relate to him what I am about to relate to you... In both instances, disaster is a part of life on this present earth. Most people do not realize that Satan is the one responsible for all disasters. Though it grieves Him in His heart, God allows these disasters for the sake of exposing Satan for who and what he truly is. God's hope is to enlighten mankind as to the absolute folly of rebellion. God also knows that Satan's time will not endure. God is therefore extremely patient in allowing disaster, whether it be on a personal, local or national level. There is sorrow in His heart each day, but He must endure as we must endure until the time is right for these disasters to come to an end. Be aware that He grieves for us in the midst of our disasters, whether personal, local, national or worldwide, and His pain throughout these disasters is much deeper than our own. Most people blame God for everything that goes wrong, or appears to go wrong in their lives. On the contrary, God at the beginning did not create mankind and put them in paradise on earth to see them destroyed. Destruction came when an evil angel rebelled and threw that created paradise into chaos. But the loving God of the universe was not thwarted. A remarkable plan went into effect that would eventually cause the cruel, sacrificial death of God's only Son, on our behalf, which served to redeem mankind and put an end to the rebellion. This plan did not occur overnight, but has been in operation, according to our time, nearly six-thousand years. This seems like a long time to us, but in God's plan this time is desperately needed, during which he continues to grieve... He grieves because of the corruption and depravity that Satan has brought upon the entire creation. He grieves yet is encouraged because of the time involved to set things right; for from the foundation of the world, He knew that there would be those who would believe and hope in Him. He foresaw endless generations of believers, and has patiently endured over much time many exceedingly hostile, wicked, unbelieving souls for their sake. He foreknew that there would be those born even amidst the worldwide depravity of our modern societies who would eventually come to believe. His plan to save His own did not consider time as we measure it; His patience has allowed you and I to become believers, over six-thousand years after the creation of the earth! He has waited for us and will continue, for an unknown period of time, to wait patiently for others. Does that sound like a God who is to blame for things going wrong? Of course not. He is indeed merciful, not willing for anyone to perish. He continues to grieve for us; grieve for our illnesses, grieve for our sufferings, grieve for every harm that overcomes us, and grieve for those who have chosen the evil way. Yet, He must allow Satan to run the fullness of his course, in hope that the entire universe will see the futility and ultimate consequences of rebellion. When Satan is destroyed that rebellion will end, and all those whom he has influenced; whose minds he has captured, will be destroyed along with him. No, we don't need to blame God. Instead, we need to trust in His plan, to cheer on His victory, and to be patient in our suffering, no matter what it consists of; for the one who causes us to suffer through personal and natural disasters will indeed perish. In the meantime, God gives us the greatest example of patience, in the hope that we too will become patient like Him, being conformed to the image of His Son. This is His will for us. There is then exceedingly great hope in disaster. There is light at the end of the tunnel, for disasters serve to show us how truly near redemption really is. The more frequent the disasters in the world, or even within our own lives, the nearer we are to God's final redemption. As you learn to believe and hope in these things, the veil will be removed from your eyes and you will be able to see the truth of God. Light will dawn in your heart which will enable you to give others an answer for the reason of the hope that is within you. The present distress is fading away. Do not let the sorrows or ills, disasters or devastations of this present life, which are brought about by Satan, control your spirit. Remember what the apostle Paul said: If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all people the most miserable. (1st Corinthians 15:19) In the next HTTOT Newsletter, we will take a profound look at yet another Letter from the Editor. Until then, I thank you for and am honored by your time. Next letter from the editor; The Wonder of Clouds Sincerely, Mark S Taylor, HTTOT Back to top Page 3
Along the Trail of Truth is HTTOT's newest addition to the Newsletter and replaces the former Friends Along the Trail segment. Along the Trail of Truth is a no-nonsense look at the world's latest ideas and/or publications, and 'sets the record straight' concerning them. God's word teaches us that the wisdom of the world is indeed foolishness with God, and that He has also chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the so-called wise (1st Corinthians 1:19-31). Relative to this profound reality, Along the Trail of Truth takes a look at natural mankind's perception of things and passes onto you the truth of the matter... Times of Disaster: The Great Flood How much do you know of the worldwide disaster of 2460 BC (time approximate), the Flood of Noah? There have been several books written on it, in addition to the Bible, by some top scientists of our generation, as well as scientists of generations gone by. The worldwide deluge is not only a truth of God, but is indeed a fact of science, most prominently archeology and geology. No disaster has ever affected the earth like this one. Until about one hundred years ago the historical fact of the Flood was almost universally accepted, not only by Christians, but also by men of science. Then arose the polluting doctrine of uniformitarianism, and, with that, Darwinism. The catastrophe of the Flood did not fit into these systems of "science"; falsely so-called. However, any true student of science can see the evidence of the global Flood everywhere in the world; The remnants of large inland bodies of water and fossil lakes are found in every continent. Buried trees, plants, fish and animals are found everywhere within the earths soil. Excavations in these old deposits have produced fossil remains of the mammoth, buffaloes, and a myriad of other animals, some eighty to six thousand feet below the present surface. The coal deposits found all over the earth are merely the result of compacted vegetation (trees and plants) that existed in great abundance in the world before the Flood. The vast oil fields of our world are chiefly a product of fish destroyed in prodigious numbers. Yes, fish are the chief source of practically the entire supply of crude petroleum, and also of natural petroleum derivatives like asphalt. No plainer witness is to be found for any physical fact than that nature has at times worked with enormous energy and rapidity. The rocky strata teem with evidence of violent and sudden dislocations on a great scale. The fossil record staggers the imagination. Animals and birds of every kind have been found in great heaps and masses, driven together to higher ground by rising waters and finally perishing under masses of clay, gravel, and other debris. Remains of prehistoric reptiles in great numbers have been found on every continent. What wonders of a strange but perished world the fossils reveal! As we examine them, whether they be found in America, Europe, Asia, or Australia, or any other place on the face of the earth, they all tell one and the same story, and that is a sudden, wholesale destruction followed by an immediate burial. Only one force known to man is capable of accomplishing that, and that force is water. Hence we can conclude that the fossils found in every part of the world constitute convincingly intelligent evidence for the Biblical Flood. The Flood is the greatest single event in history of the earth since the days of Creation. It is the most satisfactory solution for most of the problems which perplex and confuse the Christian student of geology and physical geography. But the flood has more than geological significance. The basic cause for that great world catastrophe was not geological or cosmic, but ethical and moral. Because of the wickedness of man God destroyed that world of superb perfection which He had created for an habitation of man. Understanding that disaster would be incomplete without a reference to the moral depravity of that generation, so that one might apply that particular understanding to the world of today. According to Jesus and the Apostles, the Great Flood was a prototype of the final Judgment awaiting the present world... St. Peter writes: For this they are willingly ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water, perished. But the heavens and the earth which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the Day of Judgement and perdition of ungodly men. (2nd Peter 3:5-7) As in the days of Noah, so the world today has reached an unprecedented stage of material and technical progress. But there is a counterpart to all this material progress. Masses of people are no longer governed or guided by the Spirit of God. Our age is an age of worldliness, or carnal-mindedness, and secularism; violence and wickedness abound. The philosophy of the average man is decidedly a this-world philosophy. Godlessness stalks about with a brazenness as never before. And so it was in the days of Noah. The world is ripening fast for its final judgement. The disasters of our age are warnings to us. It would also be well therefore to heed the warning of Peter when he says: The Lord is not slack concerning His promise as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord shall come as a thief in the night, in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing, then, that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons should you be? ...Nevertheless, we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth where righteousness dwells... (2nd Peter 3:9-14) Again, during these times of disaster, it is wise to consider the disasters of the past and to consider the purpose for all disasters. There is really no need for fear during these times, if you know of God, trust in Him, and have an understanding of His teachings and promises. The Psalms teach us: God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. (Psalm 46:1-3) This is the Lord's advice: You must come "out of the world" in your thinking. The philosophies of mankind and the current trends of the world truly offer no hope. It's time to be different; time to be a stranger on the earth. It's time to set your sights on things above; time to let heaven fill your thoughts. Train your mind to think this way and do these things, and you will live. For an overview of the cause of and activity during the Great Flood, you may want to hike the Lake Trail, Day Hike # 2 (Waters' Wonders), on this website. For more information on the actual catastrophe and related fossil discoveries of the Great Flood, hike the Trail of Time to the Mirror Lake junction on this website. Thanks for hiking "Along the Trail of Truth" for October and November. See you again next time. Back to top Page 4

The very first photo of the 4500 year old remains of Noah's Ark, a very impressive one to say the least, appeared in the September 5th, 1960 issue of Life magazine. The photo was taken by an aerial reconnaissance airplane in 1959. The pilot was not looking for anything like this... This large boat shaped object, near the 6500 foot level in the mountain range of "Uratu" (Ararat), far from any great body of water, caused quite a stir! A group of men from the United States went out to the area, but they came away perplexed about the site, because they expected to easily see the evidence of a "giant wooden boat", not the mud and lava covered petrified ruins that exist out there today! Biblical archeologist, Ron Wyatt, and a specialist in old boat research by the name of, David Fasold, were unfortunately not present on that very first expedition. Wyatt was 26 years old when he first saw the photo in Life magazine...
Seventeen years later, Ron Wyatt and his companions made their first trip to Turkey to investigate the site. After many years of painstaking and costly research, there and throughout the middle east, this group was able to produce astounding evidence in the search and discovery of not only Noah's Ark, but also the plain cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, the Red Sea crossing, the real Mt. Sinai in Arabia, the rock at Horeb that miraculously produced enough water for over a million people, and the most cherished artifact in the history of archeology; the Ark of the Covenant. We shall consider only Noah's ark in this particular issue of the Newsletter as it relates to Times of Disaster, however, you can visit the other discoveries along the Trail of Time at this website, by completing the hike there on Trailside Meadow. These discoveries actually belong to you, the people of Gods' world. They are His gifts to His sinful children, an act of mercy, so that all those who want to know the truth will have many obvious reasons to believe. Of course, those who truly believe can see God in the wonder of the moon and stars, in the mountains, forests and flowers of the field (Romans 1:20), but, these more humanly familiar discoveries serve to confirm for us the truth of Gods' written word and His relative operations in the earth throughout history as described therein. These great treasures, preserved by the hand of God, may serve as great "attention getters" for those who have been discouraged in total belief in the Word of God. With that thought in mind, let us examine the profound evidence of the Ark, shall we? The discovery of Noah's Ark is one of the most important archeological finds of all times, a tremendous testimony to the trustworthiness of the Bible. The petrified formation was positively identified as a boat by a number of skilled photogrammetry experts from a set of aerial photographs. On the ground, twelve years of electronic and mechanical probing have positively identified it as a boat. Its 515 foot length and its 138 foot width (splayed) are the precise measurements of Noah's Ark as recorded by Moses in the book of Genesis. Repeated chemical analysis of many different samples, taken at different times by different people and analyzed at different laboratories, positively prove it to be composed of very ancient wood and metal. Though the entire ark is filled with mud and lava, subsurface interface radar has located many chambers or rooms still within the structure... Artifacts have been recovered which carbon-date to the time of Noah. A large number of ancient and medieval inscriptions near the site positively identify it as Noah's Ark. In addition, many ancient post-flood historians record that the remains of the Ark could be visited in this area. To date, 13 anchor stones, the largest ever found in the history of the world, are located around this site. Eight of these huge stones (averaging 10 feet tall by 5 foot width and 8,700 lbs. each) have inscriptions on them which represent the 8 survivors of the great flood. One stone bears the inscription of Nimrod, the builder of the tower of Babel. Some of the inscriptions are of later date and indicate that the site may have even been visited by knights of the first crusade.
In a nearby village, known as "the village of the eight", in front of an ancient stone house there are two tombstones. Carved on the stones are a rainbow and eight symbols of Noah and his family, above an ancient petrographic portrayal of Noah's death on one marker and that of his wife on the other. The graves were found looted shortly after their discovery. A very large piece of petrified wood was also found in the area and is believed to be a portion of the covering of the Ark, which Noah removed after the Ark came to rest. A visitors' center was opened at the site by the Turkish government in 1989, however, political corruption and current unrest in the area makes travel to the site very difficult. Further excavation has not been possible to this date. You can indeed learn more about the Ark by visiting the Wyatt Archaeological Museum. The museum's link can be found at the bottom the home page on this HTTOT website. This tale is from a section of the Trail of Time, hike to Trailside Meadow, HTTOT website Thanks for hiking with me today. I hope you will join me again next time for another Trail Tales adventure. Until then, may God be with you on your journey in life. Sincerely, MS Taylor HTTOT Back to top Page 5

This is in preparation for the Oct. 15th constitutional vote. He has been in country one month and is due to return to the US in March/April time frame. With telephones and e-mail we keep in touch about once a week. Thanks for your continuing prayers for him. Yours truly, Bob Sanderson. Those in the US disaster areas... Folks from Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and Alabama need your prayers. This is a great time to both pray for and help those displaced by the great storms. God will hear your prayers, and He will notice your gift, no matter how small. There are several countries throughout the world experiencing disasters. Pray that our Lord will continue to watch over and strengthen His children during these times. The Lord is our refuge and strength in any disaster.

Please pray that God will grant her the strength to endure, and to keep her eyes and ears open for His guidance. (This is my only daughter, and I would really personally appreciate your prayers for her, as well of course as all your prayers for others on this list. Thanks, Mark.) Mr. Bill Keyser of Fresno, California... Bill is endeavoring to organize a special Bible study class at his local church. We know how difficult it can be, in these times, to get people's minds on God's truth. I would ask that we all pray for Bill, and his efforts, that folks in that area will be led to discover their need, and choose to be better informed through the study of God's Word. Let us also thank God for sending this laborer into His field, for, the harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborer's are so few. Bill needs your prayers! Please help. Adam Hadley and his mother, Paula, of Marietta, Ohio... Adam and his mother are going through one of those very difficult times in life, when God seems to be so far away. Please pray that they will accept this time as a period of learning and growing in the Lord, who is truly near to us. Pray that they will seek His counsel, that He might heal their wounds. Suzi Schnippert of Florida... will be coming home from the hospital after a 27 day bout with emphysema complicated pneumonia, with 11 days on a respirator and a tracheotomy. I do not know how those around us in the hospital dealt with the problems w/o knowing the Lord and relying on His promises and His comfort. Keep us in your prayers, you are in mine... GOD BLESS, Bill Schnippert and wife, Suzi. UPDATE on Suzi, August 1st... Suzis recovering well. Trach is out, going to PT three days a week and getting physically stronger. Doctor Jacklar said that the last CAT scans were vastly improved, but still is worried about scarring in the lung tissue and has referred us to the transplant center at Shands Gainesville for a probable double lung transplant. Suzi is still weak, too weak for play with our year old granddaughter, Liisi. She has battled pain from a W/C neck injury and its associated depression daily for the last 15 years, and being tied to an oxygen bottle and the uncertainty of the future surgeries bogs her down some times. Please, continue to keep her in your prayers... Love, Bill
Please remember all of the homeless and the poor of the world again this month. Try to locate a homeless person and help them in any way that you can... Continue to pray for all of those in need of daily bread, and please pray earnestly for all the people of the world in which we live, in every country, that men and women will desire to find wisdom, that they will turn and seek God's face in this world full of spiritual blindness, rebellion and increasing depravity. The Lord's coming will not be delayed much longer. Endeavor to encourage others to seek Him, in truth, while there is still time. Father, grant us the humility to seek Your face for the well being of others. Help us to reach out to them, with kindness, in word and in deed. We are, each one of us, in need of Your guidance in the use of possessions, our prosperity, our tongues and our talents. Though we are quite unworthy, we ask you to bless our efforts... In the name of your glorious Son, Jesus, we pray. Thank you so much for hiking with us through the October / November issue of the Hiking the Trail of Truth Newsletter. Until December then, may the grace of our Lord Jesus be upon you...
